Background of the beneficiary: Victim (who is a rape victim) is 18 years old and studying in 12th standard. She is not being allowed to attend the school as she is unable to pay the fees. The victim resides with her mother in a rented accommodation.

Grievance of the beneficiary: The mother of the victim is a vegetable vendor. The victim got pregnant as a result of the offences committed against her and gave birth to a child. The victim has suffered severe trauma. The victim was in need of compensation for her rehabilitation.

Role of Legal Services Authority played in addressing the grievance: As soon as the recommendation for granting compensation of Rs. 3,62,500/- received from the concerned learned POCSO Court, the proceedings were initiated by the jurisdictional DLSA i.e. East DLSA and the IO was called to identify the victim. The learned Secretary, East DLSA interacted with the victim and after completion of the necessary documentation formalities, a compensation award of Rs. 3,62,500/-, so recommended by learned POCSO Court, was prepared and the said compensation amount disbursed into the account of the victim.
