To be legally\u00a0literate meant that you were capable of reading and writing the legal arguments, briefs, opinions, judgments and\u00a0legislation that contribute to the body of law. This is a \u201cliteral\u201d definition of legal literacy as being \u201cliterate in\u00a0name\u00a0the law\u201d.
