• Introduction:
This is the case of Mr.Ankit, aged 26,an student nd private employee.This case shows the difference between a psychological intervention and a psychiatric intervention.It shows that how after few counselling sessions, gradually things started changing positively in Ankits life.
• Case description:
Ankit came to me and i found him very upset and low.very rigid.He was a Alcoholic .He used to take psychiatric medicines because he was going through fear psychosis and panic attacks.He dont had any interest in his family members.Totally careless about himself,just working part time for his psychiatric medicines in which he was spending 20 thousands per month. And his life was totally miserable.
• Case formulation and treatment:
When i started talking to him,he was not taking any interest, defocussed,not even making eye contact.I applied some techniques and made rappot with Ankit. Then gradually he opened up and started talking about himself .where i came to know the situations he was going through. Actually he was the only son and had two married elder sisters.They were living in the same house with their husbands.And one of his brother in laws was playing with his mind.He used to tell him that you are totally worthless,mentally sick..we will throw you out and grab all of your properties.All this was very terrible for him.so he started suffering with panic attacks,fear psychosis and started consuming alcohol and psychiatric medicines.
I started giving him counselling sessions,which helped him to know himself ,his behaviours and the future outcomes.I talked to his parents over the mobile.suggested Ankit few exercises.. visualization techniques,Healthy dietary management,some relaxation techniques,rational emotive therapy etc.
• Treatment outcome:
counselling and rational emotive technique plus visualization techniques worked well.He is settled now in his life.
