SUCCESS STORY
For many individuals living in shelter homes, something as simple as opening a bank account can be a distant dream due to a lack of proper documents, guidance, and support. Recognizing this challenge, the Central District Legal Services Authority (CDLSA), under the aegis of NALSA and DSLSA, stepped in to make a difference.
During visits to Shelter Home No. 177, managed by Mr. Md. Azam Malik, and Shelter Home No. 215, overseen by Mr. Ramesh Ji, Ld. Secretary, Central DLSA, Ms. Tapasya Agarwal, noticed that several beneficiaries were struggling to access financial services. Without a bank account, they were unable to receive government benefits, save money securely, or become financially independent.
Determined to bridge this gap, CDLSA coordinated with the Branch Manager of SBI, Tis Hazari Branch, to facilitate the opening of zero-balance accounts for these individuals. Additionally, transportation arrangements were made to ensure that the beneficiaries could travel to the bank and complete the process smoothly.
The results were transformational—13 shelter home beneficiaries successfully opened their bank accounts. This small yet powerful initiative gave them more than just financial access; it restored their confidence and dignity by empowering them to take control of their own finances.
This initiative highlights the impact of legal aid beyond courtrooms, proving that true justice also means ensuring access to basic rights and opportunities. By removing barriers to financial inclusion, CDLSA has paved the way for a more secure and empowered future for these individuals.
