Background of the beneficiary: In a horrifying incident of acid attack, four victims of acid attack approached North West DLSA for compensation. One of the victims stated that one man who was the owner of a factory in which the victim was working physically abused her and also threatened her not to disclose the incident. After few days, the culprit called the husband and brother-in-law of the victim and threw a jug of liquid on them. Subsequently, her husband was burned and some drops of the said liquid have fallen on her hands when she defended her husband. In this incident, one vegetable vendor was also affected by the said liquid, who was at the time of incident was wrapping up his vegetables and going to home, and his head, hand and back were burned. Simultaneously, some drops of liquid were also fallen upon brother-in-law of the victim when he tried to save his brother.

Grievance of the beneficiary: The victim is a housewife and having six minor children. All the victims were taking treatment in the hospital for which they were in dire need of money.

Role of Legal Services Authority played in addressing the grievance: The matter was taken up before Criminal Injuries Compensation Board by the jurisdictional DLSA i.e. North West DLSA and proceedings were initiated. After completion of the necessary formalities and as per the decision taken by Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, compensation amount of Rs. 3 Lakhs was awarded in favour of the each victim.
