On the occasion of International Criminal Justice Day, the West District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Tis Hazari Courts, conducted a legal awareness session at Tihar Jail No. 5 on 17th July 2025 from 2:00 PM onwards. The session was led by the Sh. Abhitesh Kumar, Ld. Secretary, West DLSA, on the theme “Every Accused Deserves a Voice: Legal Aid and Justice for Undertrials.” The event aimed to reaffirm the fundamental right of every accused person to fair legal representation and access to justice, regardless of their circumstances. During the session, inmates were informed about the availability of free legal aid, their rights as undertrial prisoners under Indian law, and the role of DLSA in ensuring timely and effective legal support. The Ld. Secretary also interacted with the inmates to address their legal concerns and guide them on the processes available for redressal. This initiative reflected the unwavering commitment of the West DLSA to uphold constitutional values, particularly the mandate under Article 39A of the Indian Constitution, by extending legal services to the most marginalized and ensuring that justice is accessible to all—even behind prison walls.
