In pursuance of the 100-Day Campaign for Prevention of Child Marriage under Clause-6 of NALSA’s ASHA (Awareness, Support, Help & Action) Standard Operating Procedure, and as part of Phase–II: Awareness & Outreach (Part-I), the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Shahdara District organized an Awareness Session on Prevention of Child Marriage on 19.01.2026 at Babu Ram School (School Code: 1001005 ).

The session was attended by students and teaching staff of the school. The objective of the programme was to sensitize students about the legal framework, social consequences, and harmful effects of child marriage, and to promote awareness about available support and reporting mechanisms.

The session was conducted by Ms. Puvali Singh, Resource Person, who elaborated upon the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, highlighting the legal provisions, punishments, and responsibilities of various stakeholders. She also discussed the adverse physical, psychological, social, and educational impacts of child marriage, particularly on children, with special emphasis on girls.

Further, the participants were informed about reporting mechanisms, including Child Helpline 1098 and Legal Aid Helplines #15100 / #1516, and the procedure for seeking immediate assistance. Awareness was also created regarding the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat Portal, its purpose, and its role in reporting and preventing instances of child marriage. The students were additionally apprised of the free legal aid services available through DLSA for children and their families
