Facilitated admission of children from vulnerable families in Schools.
DLSA Shahdara conducted Education Awareness Camps for school dropout and non-enrolled children from vulnerable families on 15.05.2017 & 16.05.2017 on the topic “Right to Education Under Article 21(A) of the Constitution” at JJ Clusters of following areas:
- Nand Nagri.
- Kalander Colony.
- Sunlight Colony and Seemapuri
- Sunder Nagari
- Janta Majdoor Colony
- Saboli Khadda
It was reported that majority of inhabitants of these colonies are daily wage labourers, sex workers, beggars, rag pickers and persons belonging to scheduled caste. They informed the PLVs and LACs / Resource Persons sent by DLSA/Shahdara that their children were not going to school as they were not being admitted to nearby schools owing to social stigma. As such, these children were forced to beg for living. The participants of these awareness camps were informed by the resource person that Article 21A of Constitution provides for free and compulsory education for all children in the age group of 06 to 14 years. Further, Rule 11 of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education, Rule 2010 provide for admission of children belonging to weaker section and disadvantaged group and that the schools are duty bound to admit these children in school.
A list of drop out and non-enrolled children from marginalized and down trodden families from aforesaid areas was prepared by the PLVs of Shahdara District and approximately 20 children were admitted to nearby Govt. schools namely EDMC Primary School D-1 and D-2 (2 Shifts School) Dilshad Garden near Kalander colony Delhi and EDMC Primary School, A-Block, Near Radha Krishana Mandir, pursuant to timely intervention by Secretary DLSA and District Magistrate of Shahdara District. The campaign to admit dropout and non-enrolled children from vulnerable families is presently continuing in various slums areas of Shahdara District with active participation of PLVs.
