A community-level Legal Awareness Session was organized on 15.05.2026 at Seemapuri, Delhi, under the NALSA Scheme “JAGRITI”.

The programme was conducted on the topics namely “DOWRY Prohibition” and the “Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act” with the objective of spreading legal awareness among the participants regarding the harmful social and legal consequences of Domestic Violence and Dowry practice.

Ms. Deepika Saxena, Learned Legal Aid Counsel, deputed as the Resource Person for the programme, addressed the gathering in an informative and interactive manner. During the session, the Resource Person explained that the practice of dowry places an undue financial burden on the bride’s family and often leads to the delay or denial of marriage for daughters. It was further highlighted that dowry-related practices are closely associated with harassment, domestic violence, and even dowry deaths.

The participants were also informed about the free legal aid and assistance being provided by DLSA Shahdara to eligible persons.

The session concluded with the message that every woman should enter into marriage with dignity and equality, and not as the bearer of an unjust financial burden.
