Shahdara District Legal Services Authority organized Legal Awareness Sessions on 20.07.2026 at Mandoli jail No. 16 on the theme “Rights in Custody, Dignity for All”.

During the sessions, the resource persons sensitized the inmates about their fundamental rights while in custody while in custody and emphasized the importance of preserving human dignity. They also explained the availability of free legal aid under the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987, and highlighted the role of Prison Legal Aid Clinics, Jail Visiting Advocates, and Para Legal Volunteers in ensuring access to justice for inmates.

The resource persons further discussed the provisions relating to Premature Release, Parole, Furlough, and Remission, and informed the inmates about the legal assistance available through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). They also explained the eligibility criteria and role of the Undertrial Review Committeees in facilitating the release of eligible undertrial prisoners.
